Obituary of Hollis Walker

Hollis and Margaret were married on December 29, 1945, in Billings, Montana. "Corky" grew up in Missouri and Margaret was raised on ranches in Montana. Early in their marriage "Corky" joined the U. S. Army and was stationed on the island of Iwo Jima at the close of WW II. Following his discharge from service, they lived in Wyoming and Montana before returning to his hometown of Liberal, MO, in 1951.
Prior to retirement, Hollis was self-employed as a mechanic and auto body repairman, as well as being the owner-operator of a tractor-trailer unit, hauling a variety of products ranging from grains to large equipment. He also worked as a bus driver and mechanic for the Liberal School District. Hollis was an ordained minister in the Free Will Baptist Church serving churches in South west Missouri including Eldorado Springs, Carterville and Oskaloosa. Margaret kept house for their family of five children, all of whom attended from Liberal High School, and now reside within a 50 mile radius of Lamar, MO.
Their children are Dorothy Rose Walker, Shirley Walker Webb, Corkie Walker Abts, Janet Walker Yount, and Hollis Duane Walker. Hollis and Margaret were proud of their 10 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. One granddaughter, Schelli Dawn Abts, died on December 14, 2003.
