Morris W. Yount, 91, Sarcoxie, MO, passed away April 30, 2013 at Spring River Christian Village, Joplin. Morris was born August 5, 1921 in Liberal, MO to James Elmer and Sarah Dialpha (Berry) Yount.
Morris married Maxine Harper, April 10, 1946. He served in the Army during WWII and Korea. Morris retired from the Army in 1967 having achieved the rank of Master Sargent. He was wounded several times and received a purple heart. Morris spent 31 months as a P.O.W. during his duty in Korea. He told the story that a cat adopted him as a friend during the time he spent as a POW, crediting that cat for keeping him focused on better times. Morris had a fondness for cats after returning home, and became known as "Cat Man Morris". He housed many and fed any and all cats in Sarcoxie. Morris taught ROTC, did landscaping, and retired a second time from ministry. He was a Christian and served faithfully as a member of the Church of Christ, Carthage, MO.
Morris is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Maxine; brothers Rollo, Walter, Jerry, and Dean Yount; sisters Cleo Tiller, Mary Plymate, and Georgia Steele. Survivors include brothers, Dale Yount and Bill Yount, both of Fremont, NE; sisters Mina Williams, of Fremont, NE and Bonnie Rea, of Webb City, MO; many nieces and nephews; dear friends and his extended church family.
