Obituary of Robert Simmons

Robert L. Simmons, 83, Lamar, MO, passed away November 18, 2012, at Truman Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Lamar, MO. Robert was born near Arcola, Dade County, Missouri, on June 26, 1929, to Omer and Maggie Siders Simmons. He graduated from Lamar High School, class of 1947. Robert married Reba Jones, August 1, 1948, in rural Dade County, Missouri. He joined the Army, serving in the Korean War from 1952 - 1954 and was honorably discharged as Sargent First Class Officer. Robert was an avid farmer all of his life and was a proud rural letter carrier for 37 years. He was a member of the Hopewell CP Church, rural Lamar. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; a son Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Reba, of the home; son, Calvin Simmons and wife, Debra, of Lamar; daughter, Jan Simmons Rogers, of Raleigh, N.C.; three grandsons, Joshua and wife, Julie, of Alba, MO, great grandson Isiah; grandsons, Phillip and wife, Ashley, of Joplin, MO, Tyler and friend, Brittany, of Sheldon, MO; sister, Wanda Michel, of Kansas City, MO; a number of nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was loved and will be missed by many.
