Obituary of Katherine Irene Farmer
Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Katherine Irene (Turner) Farmer, 96, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 22, 2019 at Via Christi Village, Pittsburg, KS. She had lived there for 5 years and spoke often of how she loved it there. She was born September 16, 1923 in Leroy, MO to Roy and Alma (Garrett) Turner. Katherine graduated from Liberal High School, Liberal, MO.
Katherine worked for Keys and the State Hospital, both in Nevada, MO and cleaned houses in her many years of work. She retired after 15 years at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, KS, as the housekeeping supervisor. Anyone that worked with Katherine knew she didn’t put herself above anyone and expected perfection from herself and the ones that worked for her.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church of Liberal, MO and was a member of the Eastern Star of Garland, KS for many years where she made many lifelong friends.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her baby sister Ruby, her brother Allen, sister Shirley and son Jerry. She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Eldon) Wright of Leroy, KS, Marsha Harris of Lewiston, CA, and Kathy (Roger) Marti of Liberal, MO, six grandchildren, Rick (Tammy) Sprenkle, Randy (Regina) Sprenkle, Kevin (Kelli) Sprenkle, Wayne Stephens and partner Jennie Freeze, Tami (Paul) Helms, and Katie Umphenour. She is also survived by 19 great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren, with four more on the way.
She was her family’s treasure. She was the essence of generosity, grace and inner beauty. Her work ethic was her legacy. She led her family by example, gifting each of them with those qualities that she was respected for, as well as, with her witty spirit that was charming and captivating to everyone she interacted with. She was so loved by her family and will be greatly missed. But as her great granddaughter said, “Farmer will never see another hazy day. She’s in the bright shining glory of heaven.”
There will be a visitation Friday December 27, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Konantz Warden Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Friday January 3, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Konantz Warden Funeral Home followed by interment at Shiloh Cemetery.
