Obituary of Regina Lynn Cox

Regina Lynn (Hayes) Cox, 47, of Harrisonville, MO passed away on Saturday June 6, 2020. Regina was born on August 5, 1972 at Ft Stuart, GA to Johnnie and Jerrie (Cockeril) Hayes. Regina’s dad was in the Army for 26 years, so she grew up as an Army brat. She graduated from high school at Lee’s Summit High School in 1990 and went on to receive her Bachelor of Teaching Degree from University of Phoenix. She taught English in Japan for 2 years. The first love of Regina’s life was her three handsome sons. Her second love was a Starbucks Venti white chocolate mocha, 4 espresso shots, nonfat, no whip, no foam, 130 degrees, stirred. She devoted her life to her family and spent most of her adult life, over 22 years, as an active wife (to Shane Cox) and mother in a USMC family. In 2013 she moved back to MO where she tried to find her new way in life out of the military world. She treasured the many friends she had made in her military life and kept in contact with many of them. Regina loved photography, frogs, the color purple, and southern cooking, since her roots are from KY. She could make some awesome green beans and amazing chicken and dumplings. The dishes she made were made with every ounce of love she had in her body. Regina was a fan of the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and of KC Chiefs football. She definitely didn’t have a green thumb, however, loved receiving flowers. Regina was 5 feet tall and made sure everyone knew she could not reach things above the lower shelves. She loved her Ford F150 because she felt taller in it, yet she only remained at eye level. Regina was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Jerrie Hayes, from Grayson County, KY, her son Jeremiah, both sets of grandparents, many uncles, aunts, and cousins. She was definitely met by many family members and friends as she walked through heaven’s gates. Psalm 23:6: Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. She is survived by three sons; Steven (Kodi) Cox of Oak Grove, MO, Marcus Cox, of Nevada MO, and Alex (Michael) Cox-Caldwell of Poway, CA, a grandson, Steven and Kodi’s child, Xavier, a beautiful daughter (adopted by the heart of Regina) Amanda (Juan) Ortega, of CA, a sister; Sherrie (David) Knight of Belton, MO, and an older brother; Jimmy (Jan) Hayes of Gunn City, MO. She is also survived by her aunt, Kathy Cockeril of IN, her former husband Shane Cox of Lakeside, CA, many nephews, and nieces that she loved very much, and cousins from a little bit of everywhere. Regina is also survived by her boyfriend, Shawn Ward, who showed her so much love, respect, and happiness the last six months of her life. A Celebration of Life will be held on June 20, 2020 from 3 pm to 7 pm at VFW Post 8220, located at 144 Vivian Rd, Belton, MO. Please bring a covered dish to share.
