Obituary of Thomas Roy Reed

Thomas Roy Reed entered Heaven’s Gates on Sunday, September 5, 2021. He was born December 31, 1942, in Lamar, MO to Charley and Ruby (Harrington) Reed. Tom married Lloy Pennington on November 1, 1959. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1960, serving as a recip aircraft mechanic in many places including Saudi Arabia, Hawaii, Maryland (serving in the Presidential Squadron for 6 years), and Iceland, before landing in Austin, TX until his retirement in 1980. It was in Austin where he renewed his commitment to the Lord and became totally sold out to Him. After retirement, he moved back to Missouri to be closer to family, and attended Ozark Bible College for one year. He loved traveling and eventually he and Lloy decided to travel the country driving an 18 wheeler for many years until his next retirement. Tom was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar, MO, where he was a servant for many years, holding several positions and helping in a variety of areas including serving as an elder and teaching many classes and sharing the message of Jesus. He would describe himself as a lifelong wrench turner and would often be found working on not only his own vehicles (cars, trucks, tractors, MOTORCYCLES, etc.), but those of a large part of his family and community. He was a member of the VFW 3691, American Legion 209 and the local R.O.M.E.O. (Retired Old Men Eating Out) motorcycle group. Tom never met a stranger and was known and loved by many. He was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed anything he could do with his family, making their hobbies his hobbies just to be able to spend time together. One of his favorite hobbies without a doubt was motorcycling. He is survived by his loving and caring wife Lloy, of 61 years; son, Randy (Tammy) Reed, Carl Junction, MO, and daughter, Teresa (Keith) Cochran, Wellington, AL; grandchildren, Allen (Darcy) Reed, Lamar, MO, Adam (Laci) Reed, Carl Junction, MO, Anthony (Kimi) Reed, Springfield, MO, Dana Teague, Gadsden, AL, Micah Cochran, Wellington, AL, Amy (Stephen) Dewey, Olathe, KS, and Wendy Hyche, Hokes Bluff, AL. He is also survived by eleven great grandchildren, Ethan, Avery, Addyson, Jaelyn, Rowdy and Abbey Reed, Taylor, Clay and Wesly Teague, Corbin and Cambrie Dewey; siblings, Charles Reed, Arlene Weber, Roger (Karan) Reed and Peggy Cook; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jim Reed and Donna Byrd; and grandson, Adam Cochran. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8 Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Lamar First Christian Church Building Fund. Funeral services will be held at The First Christian Church in Lamar at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 11. There will be a visitation from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday September 11, at the church prior to the service. A committal service will take place at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, MO, Monday, September 13, at 10:00 A.M. The service will be live streamed at 2:00 P.M.
