Dear Willis and all of Sue's dear family--I was so saddened to hear of Sue's recent passing. She was a treasured roommate and friend to me when I was new to this country in my college years in Springfield. I remember most of all her cheerful demeanor and positive and warm nature. I've shared much about her to my kids and although we fell out of touch over the years, her friendship was one of the most significant in my life. My deepest condolences for Sue's loss. I will remember her in my prayers. With love to all of her loved ones, Taraneh

I worked alongside Sue Dearing at the Plaza Library in 2011-2012.
Before getting to know her, I had been aware that she had an unparalleled, well-deserved reputation as an excellent reference librarian.
She was warm and gracious to all.
Rest in peace, Sue.

Sue was one of the very first people I met at the Kansas City Public Library after I landed a part-time position to work the reference desk when the old Plaza Library became the first and only library open on Sunday. Sue and others were so generous in getting me trained for the job. One thing Sue and I always visited about was our kitties, and it was good news to hear that someone from Lamar will be taking care of Smudge. Sue was a very kind soul and will be missed.

Sue hired me for my first position at the Kansas City Public Library in 2004. She had a calm, patient demeanor with staff and the public. It's great to encounter people like Sue who clearly made the right professional choice. She saw many changes and was a wonderful community asset.

Sue was always willing to teach, I learned a lot from her. Her knowledge was incredible, but most of all she was willing to share it. I so very much enjoyed working with Sue at the Plaza Library.

Very sad news. As a student at UMKC I worked at the Plaza Branch
when Sue Dearing worked directly across from me at Plaza Reference
she was a "wonder to behold" she was "google" before there was an internet!
Sue Dearing would quote the source material, with dates, source locations, and all source contributors,
almost instantly searching primitive computer databases, ref. books, and (back then) news clippings.
The Plaza phones would ring all day long and she handled them everyday
before there were "subs", before shorter days and snow days...!
Truely a talented librarian... (RIP)

My sincere condolences to Sue's family. I am fortunate to have lived next to Sue for many years and I could not ask for a more compassionate, genuine, appreciative, sweet, and down-to-earth person for my son and I to have as a neighbor. She will be dearly missed, and we take solace in the knowledge she is in a better place.
