Mardelle E. Akin, 103, of Lockwood, MO, formerly of Waterloo died Monday, November 22, 2021, Good Shephard Nursing Home in Lockwood.
She was born November 4, 1918, in Waterloo, daughter of Harold F. and Vera M. Crozier Guyer. Mardelle graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1937. She married John H. Hoffman, Jr., on July 31, 1937, he died September 30, 1967; later married Frank E. Young on March 30, 1974, he died September 23, 1974; and later married Paul L. Akin on March 20, 1996, he died November 4, 1997.
Mardelle worked at Smith Jewelry 1957 to 1959. She was also a secretary at Construction Machinery 1959 to 1966 and Cedar Falls Savings and Loan from 1966 until her retirement in 1976.
She was a member of the United Brethren Church since 1920 until its closure in 1992. Mardelle then became a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church. She was 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron of Waterloo Chapter #128 Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards, such as 500 and Canasta, and traveling. Her family will remember her for making great chili, bread, and Christmas dinners.
Mardelle is survived by 19 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sandra Hoffman of Estherville.
She is preceded in death by her daughters, Karen K. Potter and Meredythe J. Munson; sons, John "Jack" and Robert "Dick" Hoffman; granddaughter, Kim Hudson; great-grandson, Dakota Rolley; sons-in-law, Robert Potter and Eugene "Mike" Hunt; and stepsister, Betty Phelps.
