Earl Lipscomb posted a condolence

I have many fond memories of Roger. Roger used to grow and bale some very nice alfalfa hay. I tried to buy it from him each year to resell it. But he usually sold it to Bob McKay. Whenever I'd ask him to sell it to me, he'd just laugh and say "blood is thicker than water," meaning that since he and Bob were related, he'd sell to Bob instead of me. Now I don't remember if they were first or second cousins, or how they were related. But Roger might have just told me they were related in order to torment me.
Roger told some good jokes. He told me once why he was bald headed. "God made two places for a face, and the first was so good looking that He didn't use the other." Roger was always generous with me, lending me a truck or other equipment. He was a really good neighbor to my grandparents, Jim and Dorothy Bunton, and to me while living there in the summer as a kid. He may have made a comment or two about what time he heard my old '61 Buick come home after midnight on Saturday night, how I "shut it down" as I passed their house.
As an adult, if I was having a bad day, Roger could brighten it by just showing up. He was one of my favorite people. One time he wanted to go flying and offered to pay the rent on the Cessna airplane if I’d take him up and fly around home to look it over. I was not as gentle with the plane as I should have been, turning without warning or too abruptly. When we landed back at Pittsburg, I had made him a bit queasy (unintentionally). I have felt bad about that ever since especially since he paid for the plane.
Not long ago, Roger wrote a very nice and complementary article for the newspaper about my grandfather Edwin Lipscomb. I certainly appreciated his kindness.
Roger was a godly man; a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and I know where he will be through eternity. I enjoyed knowing Roger and I’m proud to call him my friend.
My condolences to Ionia, Clint, Lora, and Lynette and all the family. May God comfort you and bring you peace.
Earl Lipscomb
