Grandma and I had a very special bond. I have so many wonderful memories of her and I’m very thankful for that.
She had flowers around her entire yard and could tell you what each one was and how to take care of them. Her vegetable garden was HUGE! I remember thinking how beautiful they were. I remember helping her canning pickles and putting them in the pump house.
When I was 7 years old my brothers and I went to live with my Grandparents while our mom was in nursing school. I remember it like it was yesterday. I absolutely loved living with them. I would help Grandma with dinner and she always made sure it was on the table when Grandpa got home from work. She was the same way when Grandpa would come home from work on his lunch break.
Grandma and I would play Atari together. I remember she actually enjoyed it or she just enjoyed playing with me. Either way we had fun and laughed so much together.
Grandma was one of the hardest women I’ve ever met. Her house was always clean, her yard and gardens absolutely beautiful, she mended fences and the list goes on. I remember thinking she could do everything!
I’ve said my entire life and will continue to say it…If I am half the woman she is then I will be happy with myself.
I wish everyone was fortunate enough to have a Grandma like mine.
Until we meet again Grandma, fly high. I love you so much!!

It’s hard to summarize a lifetime of memories in one small blurb.
As a grandmother, she was the best. I’m not just saying it because I’m biased. Geneva taught me many things over the years. When I was little, and fussing at her house, she told me to knock off my attitude or I’d never get to come back to her house. I fully believed her and never had an attitude with her again. She laughed for years to come about it. I learned to respect my elders and also realize when they’re being ornery…
When I got old enough to reach the foot gear shift, she taught me how to drive the 4-wheeler that we would regularly take back and forth from her and grandpa’s house to ours. She and I would go check cows, check on grandpa, check fencing, or just go over to mom’s house for something. She taught me about all of the various plants and flowers along the way, and the insects we would see (and I’d usually tell her to kill because… bugs).
Grandma was at every event growing up. From kindergarten graduation through high school, even my wedding. She was at every major life event for me. I didn’t realize at the time how fortunate I was, but looking back it means the world to me that she and grandpa came to everything.
She was a very opinionated, and occasionally stubborn, woman. But she had a heart of gold. Geneva cared deeply about those in her life. She was a one-of-a-kind and I will forever be grateful to have gotten to call her my grandma. Our time together is never enough in this lifetime, but I’m glad for the years and memories we were able to share.
I could go on, but I’ll stop for now and say “thank you” for being my grandma, my cheerleader, my mentor, my peer. Thank you for playing such a huge role in my life, for loving me, for taking care of me, for teaching me. Thank you, Geneva… go rest high. Rest, until we meet again. I love you, grandma.
