Ruth “Juanita” Schmitt, passed away Tuesday January 24, 2023. She was born June 11, 1926, in Blackwell, OK to Matthew and Fannie (Kern) Jernigan. She grew up in Blackwell, OK and Bigelow, AR.
She married Stanley Schmitt in 1946 at Winfield, KS, and a couple years later settled in Lamar, MO. Stanley and Juanita managed Stan’s Burger & Shake, a popular drive-in. After that she was a cashier at Blue Top Restaurant. Juanita enjoyed clogging, being a Red Hat, and traveling with the Holiday Rambler RV Club. Juanita was a Winter Texan where she was the church pianist at Trophy Gardens. While she was at Maple Senior Living it brought her great joy playing the piano for the residents, especially when they sang along with her. In her spare time she enjoyed reading her devotions, bible, and crossword and picture puzzles. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church nearly 70 years where she loved playing the piano. She was quite talented and also played the organ, violin, and ukulele.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, her five brothers, Danny Joe, Billy Dale, Bob, Harold and Kenneth along with two sisters, Mozelle and Hazel.
She is survived by her children Ron (Pam) Schmitt of Ocala, FL, Cheryl (Wayne) Nims of Lamar, MO and Linda Womack Broken Arrow, OK. Juanita was blessed with 7 grandchildren and 5 soon to be 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Glenda Carlson.
If you would like to make a memorial contribution in her name, the family suggests Barton County Senior Citizens Center in Lamar, MO in care of the funeral home.
The family will receive visitors January 30, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and the Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM at the First Christian Church of Lamar.
