I saw my Granny for the last time a few weeks ago. Look at this woman! 98 and enjoying it until the end. I’m not sure I’ve met a woman with more love to give than her.
One husband. Four kids. 9 grand kids. And many, many great and great-great grands.
My Granddad died when I was two and she spent the rest of her life being a loving, present and active part of all of our lives. The old house in Lamar, bursting with family and friends. Learning to drive the ford tractor. Walks to get RC Cola. Meals around the tables. Lamar Fair. Her garden. Soccer games. Holidays. Graduations. Weddings. Babies.
Oh how she loved all our babies.
So many Granny pats.
And “Oh honey”s.
And I love yous.
And a “sh*t” here and there.
My mother’s mother, Aline Adams, was our matriarch and in the wake of her loss we will do what she taught us- we will gather, and feed each other and love on each other and share stories of the people we love. We will pat knees and hug big and always say I love you. And maybe find some shenanigans along the way.

I graduated from LPN school in Nevada in 1988 and my first nursing job was at Barton County Memorial. I loved labor and delivery and caring for the babies in the nursery. Aline was a great mentor and taught me many things. I always appreciated her sharing her wealth of knowledge as well as being fun to work with. She was always on her toes and she could hustle and get things done. A privilege to have had the chance to work with her for quite a few years and a joy to have known her. My sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. She was always smiling and I will remember that smile until we meet again. Sincerely, Tammy Gillette

My parents moved to Lamar because my mom got a teaching job there. Reed & Aline were cousins as well as “surrogate” parents to them. When I was born (Aug. 12) my mom had to go back to work at the end of August. Aline stepped in and took care of me so mom could teach during the day and dad could sleep since he worked overnight at Lawn Boy. Reed & Aline became “surrogate” grandparents to me. Aline and the Adams family have continued to be a huge part of the Lile family. I can remember my first “big girl” ride at the Lamar fair Aline rode with me. It was The Tilt-a-Whirl! She was a great cook and there was always ice-tea and Squirt at their house. She always had big hugs, pats and “I love you”! And she never let me forget that she took care of me from the very beginning. I love you, Granny! Rest well! I’ll see you later.

Granny rode all the rides with me since I was big enough starting at the Lamar Fair. My first ride in the Zipper at the fair was with her. She rode roller coasters with me and all the kids up into her seventies. I think she made some of the people running the rides nervous at Silver Dollar City. I was able to do two cross country trips with the her. We went from San Diego to Maine in those two trips. Our first trip from Sand Diego to Missouri she showed me her old stomping grounds. We did the Painted Forrest, Grand Canyon, and some family along the way. That second trip I was accused of kidnapping Granny for six weeks. April, my middle one, was due the last week in March and I came down to Missouri to get some things and haul them back up to Maine and Granny came back with me. April decided she wasn't ready the last week of March or the first week of April. Everyone kept wondering if Granny was going to stay with me but she was determined to be there when April was born on the 15th of April. I finally got her home the end of April. She was very sneaky and quick. There isn't a relative alive that hasn't had some food snatched from their plate that Granny thought looked tasty. Her sweet tooth was legendary and all you had to do was turn your head and the old bird would strike and had snatched food from you before you knew what happened. She would have that scrunched up satisfied look on her face that she got you. She also had ninja skills. Should loved sneaking up behind you and get you with a certified granny cold clutch on the neck. It wasn't till she had a walker in her nineties that you stood a chance of hearing her come up behind you but she was also patient and you would let your guard down and she would nail you with yet another Granny cold clutch. Only way to get back at her was with a beard rub. She will be missed my Granny Great.

I’m so sorry to hear of Aline’s passing. I had the privilege of working with her for many years. She took care of my firstborn in the nursery. She was a wonderful person and exceptional co-worker. Rest in peace.
