Obituary of Gerald Hoyt

Gerald Albert Hoyt, 92, passed away July 3, 2012 at
Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO. He was born the 6th of 10 children,
on May 1, 1920, in Quitman, MO, to Bert and Jenny Halfield Hoyt.
Gerald grew up on a farm in Northern Missouri and graduated from Guilford High School, Guilford, MO, class of 1941. He married his High School sweetheart, Georgia Cox, September 27, 1941. To this union was born two children, Evelyn in 1942, and Larry in 1948.
They bought and farmed their first farm in Union Star, MO. Gerald served in the army from 1942-1945 as a tank driver, receiving a purple heart and two bronze stars. In 1949, they bought a farm in Mindenmines, MO. He left farming in 1960 and owned and operated his own dump truck. In 1961 they bought their home in Lamar. Gerald retired from Thorco in 1982 with 10 years of service.
Gerald was a faithful member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle, Lamar and served as Sunday School Superintendent in both Minden and Lamar. He was always willing to help and work when he could.
Gerald was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-nine years, Georgia; daughter Evelyn McDaniel; his parents; four brothers, Herald, Kenneth, Dale and Dwight; four sisters, Gladys, Edith, Norma and Winnona; one great-great grandchild, Kayden.
Survivors include his son Larry and wife, Liz, of Carterville, MO; very special son-in-law Larry McDaniel, Lamar, MO; three grandchildren, Terry McDaniel, Jalene Force, and Timothy Hoyt; five great grandchildren, Rachel, Matthew, Kaitlynn, Ashley and Marin; two great great grandchildren Gideon and Bryar; a brother, Galand Hoyt of St. Joseph, MO.
