Obituary of Greg McDonald

Gregory Lee McDonald, 69, of Golden City, MO passed away on Tuesday February 27, 2024. He was born in Lamar, MO to Claude and Clarabell (Leivan) McDonald. Greg grew up in the Golden City area, graduating from Golden City High School in 1972. He married Renae Gilliam at Lamar Assembly of God on June 12, 1976.
Greg worked as a farmer after high school and worked in several other places in his life including the Golden City Foundry, O’Sullivan’s, Thorco for around 10 years, Sprouls Construction for over 20 years, and Grubaugh Construction. He enjoyed participating in tractor pulls, water skiing, scuba diving, and anything to do with a boat. He was scary on the tubes. He enjoyed deer hunting, anything Corvette, and collecting Hot Wheels. His family has fond memories of camping trips and trips to Silver Dollar City in Branson where they would ride roller coasters with Greg over and over until they were sick. Greg was a hard-working man who was always doing something. If he was not working to get paid, he was working at home. He is loved dearly by his family and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Renae McDonald of the home; children Micah (Shawnda) McDonald of Golden City, MO, Mitch (Tasha) McDonald of Lamar, MO, and Michelle (Chase) Miller of Jasper, MO; grandchildren Madison, Tristin, Cloe, Mason, and Marissa; step grandchildren Desiree and Tayton; and great grandchildren Myla, Ava, and Mathieu. He is also survived by his siblings Jill (Dan) Peters of Lamar, MO, Jayne Babbitt of Smithville, MO, and Todd (Cathy) McDonald of Lamar, MO; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Dick (Sue) Gilliam of Dewey, AZ, Loretta (Charlie) Adkins of Apopka, FL, and Greg (Cheri) Gilliam of Monett, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents Claude and Clarabell McDonald, father-in-law and mother-in-law Marvin and Violet Gilliam, and brother-in-law Mike Babbitt.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Mount Carmel Cemetery on Saturday March 2, 2024.
