Obituary of Darrell Wayne Spurling

Darrell W. Spurling, 71, of Liberal, MO passed away on Sunday June 16, 2024. He was born in Fort Scott, KS to Wilbur and Ethel (Bogart) Spurling. He grew up in the Liberal area. He married Kim Trout on September 21, 1979, and the couple would have celebrated 45 years of marriage this year. They lived and raised their family in Girard, KS until 1996 when they moved to Liberal, MO. Darrell worked several places over the years including making deliveries for Pico Ice Cream, working for Hagman Outlet Store, and for the City of Liberal. He worked for many years for Superior Industries in Pittsburg, KS where he was 5th in the company for his length of service to them. Darrell was a talented wood worker and enjoyed watching every sport from golf and tennis to baseball and football. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and tinkering with his cars and mowers even when they didn’t have anything wrong with them. He was survived by his wife Kim who passed away three days after he did. Darrell is survived by his children Derrick (Kimberly Wass) Spurling of Mindenmines, MO and Daniel Spurling of Liberal, MO; grandchildren Jaxyn, Kasen, Lakyn, and Claira Spurling; siblings Mike (Jeannie) Spurling of Liberal, MO and Cora Ganger of Liberal, MO; and stepmother Velma Spurling of Liberal, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Bobby McMechan, Randy McMechan, and Carolyn Thompson; brother-in-law Darrell Thompson; nephew Eddie Thompson; and niece Lavona Chapman. If you would like to make a memorial contribution in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made for final expenses in care of Konantz Warden Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday June 24, 2024, and a funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Konantz Warden Funeral Home. Dinner will follow graveside interment at the Liberal Park Building.
