Ona Mae Winship, 91, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018. She was born April 9, 1927, the first child of six children born to Walter James Miller and Minnie Belle (Sherron) Miller. She was born at the home of her maternal grandparents, Jim and Pearl Sherron, near Jerico Springs, MO. She lived most of her life in Barton County, with the exception of four years of her childhood when her family moved to the state of California. Ona Mae was twice married. In 1947 she married Raymond E. Thompson. To this union one son, Jerry Allen Thompson was born. Raymond passed away in April 1951. In 1961 she married John E. Winship. He passed away in February 1973. They had one son, John Alan Winship, who also preceded his mother in death. Mrs. Winship was a homemaker and a lifetime caregiver to those in need. Her wit and memories led her to be a columnist for The Liberal News titled, “On My Mind” and “Thinking Back”. She is survived by her son Jerry Thompson and wife Millie of Kingman, AZ, five grandchildren: Justin Thompson, James Thompson, Jesse Thompson, Kelsey Thompson, Naporscha Thompson, one brother; Jack Miller, Derby, KS and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John Alan Winship, her brothers; Bob, Chuck and Larry Miller and a sister; Dorothy Richards.
