Obituary of Danny Lewis Thornton

Danny Lewis Thornton, 72, of Blackshear, GA passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter Shannon (David) Sharp on June 11, 2023. Danny was born to Martha (Strickland) and Lewis Thornton Jr. in Blackshear, GA. He grew up and lived his entire life in the Blackshear, Waycross area. Danny worked most of his life as a welder and fabricator until having a successful heart transplant on November 2, 1997. At 26 years post-transplant, he is one of the longest surviving heart transplant recipients in Georgia. Danny married the love of his life, Deborah Moody, on March 11, 1987. Together they enjoyed fishing and camping. Danny loved to talk and never met a stranger. He was also known to be an expert griller, with his specialty being "Danny Burgers". After the passing of his beloved wife, Danny spent his time with his sidekick and partner in crime, his lil' buddy, Winchester. Danny was known to have a huge and tender heart, and would do anything for anyone in need, regardless of who it was, or how he was treated. Danny loved to laugh and have a good time. He was especially fond of his "snakebite". In his final months he was surrounded by love and laughter with his family. He was quick to tell everyone he could that his family was Shannie, BB, Jimbob and Butterball. Danny will always be lovingly remembered as Pops or Poppy. In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a public ceremony. The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
